Cornwall Sunrise Rotary Adventures in the Environment September 14th – 17th, 2015
 
Day 1 – Monday (September 14th, 2015)  
9:00 Arrival at the River Institute 
9:00 - 9:15 Welcome and introduction
9:15 - 10:00 Dr. Brian Hickey will lead a discussion of the ecology of the St. Lawrence River and River Institute’s research and special projects
10:00-12:00 Fish sampling techniques (e.g. hoop nets, seining, gill netting) at River Institute
12:00-12:30 Lunch at River Institute.
12:30-16:00 Process Fish (weight, measure, tag) at River Institute
16:00 Pick up at River Institute (same spot as drop off)
 
Day 2 – Tuesday (September 15th, 2015)  
9:00 Arrival at Ontario Power Generation Moses-Saunders Dam
9:00-11:00 Tour of Moses-Saunders Dam (including eel ladder)
11:00-12:00 Join Matthew Windle for a presentation on American eels, participate in eel research, and observe live eels (not guaranteed).
12:00-12:30 Lunch at River Institute
12:30-16:00 Invertebrate sampling techniques (D-net, Kick & Sweep, Dredge) and analysis in lab
16:00 Pick up at the River Institute
 
Day 3- Wednesday (September 16th, 2015)
7:00-9:00 Breakfast with the Rotary Club of Cornwall Sunrise
9:00 Arrive at Eco-Gardens Gazebo
9:00 – 10:00 Waterfront historical walk, led by Ian Bowering
10:00-12:00 Join Matt Ellerbeck- Salamander Expert for a presentation on salamander, Sample for salamanders at Rotary Creek
12:00-12:30 Lunch at Rotary Creek
12:30-15:00 Rotary Creek BioBlitz (e.g. sample fish, invertebrates, birds, plants, etc.)
15:00-17:30 Join Dr. Brian Hickey on a bat research expedition. (weather depending)
 
Day 4- Thursday (September 17th, 2015)
9:00 Arrival at River Institute
9:00-11:00 Water quality analysis in laboratory and use field sampling tools with a River Institute Laboratory and Field Technician
11:00-12:00 Wrap up and complete evaluation of the Adventure
12:00 End of the Adventure - pick up at the River Institute
