Our Projects in El Salvador

 

Projects and friendships between Salvadorian Rotarians and members of our club date to the beginning of this century. It has been our experience that successful projects are based upon acquaintance, friendship and trust. Shared activities range from attendance at project fairs, Interact Missions and assorted Rotary projects, both large and small, to the more social aspect of home hospitality.

The first project fair we attended in El Salvador was in 2001, following a massive earthquake. We saw resilience in action as Salvadorian Rotarians were engaged in massive clean-up and recovery activities at the same time as they hosted Rotary visitors and conducted a very successful project fair. This was the beginning of lasting ties between Rotarians in El Salvador and our District.

The relationship moved forward and led to the first Interact Mission to El Salvador in 2002. This was a mission made up of 20 Interactors from two high school clubs, General Vanier (Cornwall) and General Panet (Petawawa) and their advisors.  The Salvadorian Rotarians arranged an excellent cultural experience that included both social activities and work experience in underserved communities.
